RIDE
THE WIND GALLERY IN EXPLORATION PLACE (WICHITA, KS)
A couple works together at a video animation stand to create images
of flying on-screen. This is just one of many ways that visitors can
creatively explore flight and design. Ride the Wind is one of thirteen
program galleries and theaters recently executive produced by White
Oak Associates. Designed by Gyroscope, Inc. (Oakland, CA) and built
by Maltbie Associates (Mount Laurel, NJ) the interactive exhibits in
this gallery are framed by the curved and soaring Wind Wall, seen here
in the upper left of the picture. Conceived by artist Ned Kahn of Ned
Kahn Studios (Sebastopol, CA), the Wind Wall is composed of 350,000
tiny reflective disks that dramatize every wind current in the room.
In the center of the sweeping arc of mirrored disks is a tower (top
center) with propellers and fans operated by visitors to explore and
see the effects of wind.
